Lost keys: the right steps to replace your keys safely

Lost your keys? The real question is not just ‘how do I replace them?’ but ‘should I change the lock?’. We guide you through it, without scaremongering.

Should you change the cylinder?

Ask yourself one simple question: can the lost key be linked to your address? (key ring with your name, lost near your home, bag stolen with your ID). If so, the safest option is to replace the cylinder: a spare key is no use if someone already has your key.

Replacing your keys

If you keep the cylinder, we make a new key from an existing spare or from its key number (for a patented key : on presentation of the key registration card). If you change the cylinder, choose it according to the right security level.

In a residential building

In an apartment building, changing a lock can affect the grand master key. Our master key system handles these cases properly (grand master key, master keys) without recombining everything. See also master key systems for property managers.

Never get locked out again

Leave an emergency spare key with someone close to you and, for professionals, use a secure key safe. Better safe than sorry.
