Safe security classes
A safe's security level is defined by two main standards: the European standard EN 1143-1 for burglary resistance, and the EI 30 / EI 60 / EI 90 classes for fire resistance.
| Class | Insured value (€) | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Class 0 / S1 | up to €8,000 | Home, everyday valuables |
| Class I / S2 | up to €25,000 | Demanding home use, jewellery, small business |
| Class II | up to €50,000 | Business, hotel, professional practice |
| Class III | up to €100,000 | Jeweller's, bank branch |
| Class IV | up to €200,000 | Financial institutions |
Fire resistance (EI 30/60/90) protects documents and data for 30, 60 or 90 minutes at 1010°C. Choose it if you store important papers, computer media or photos.
Key, electronic or biometric safe: which to choose?
Key lock
The traditional benchmark. Mechanical, reliable for 50+ years, no battery needed. Drawback: losing the key blocks access and requires a call-out.
Electronic lock
6 to 8-digit code that can be changed at will. Quick opening, event log (premium), multi-user management. Battery to be replaced every 2-3 years.
Biometric lock
Fingerprint + backup code. Instant access, ideal in multi-user professional settings. More expensive to buy (+30 to 50%), but more convenient for frequent use.
Safes for businesses and hotels
For professionals, the use determines the format:
- Hotels: compact code safes, fixed to furniture, class 0 or S1
- Offices & professional practices: S2 / Class I cabinet safes, 50-150 L capacity
- Pharmacies: EI 60 fire-resistant safes + Class I resistance
- Jewellers / luxury retail: Class III or IV, often anchored into the floor
- Restaurants: deposit safes (cash dropped in without opening)
Our trade team offers a free needs assessment for bulk orders, with model recommendations, negotiated pricing and delivery/installation.
Installation and fixing
All safes weighing 50 kg or more must be fixed to the floor or wall to keep their insurance class. Three methods:
- Concreted in: set into the concrete slab (major renovation, maximum security)
- Anchored: coach screws into a concrete floor or load-bearing wall (the most common)
- Recessed: built into a wall, flush front (neat look, limited capacity)
At CLEFERM, standard delivery leaves the safe at your door. Premium delivery includes carrying it upstairs and fixing by a certified installer.
