A2P 1, 2 or 3-star: a complete comparison

Expert comparison of A2P 1, 2 or 3-star ratings (French certification). Our analysis draws on hands-on expertise since 2002.

Background

Unsure which technical option to choose? Our detailed comparison helps you decide based on your real needs, your budget and how the product will be used. Our approach: hands-on expertise since 2002, rather than manufacturer marketing.

Evaluation criteria

  • Actual security level: certifications, tests, real-world feedback
  • Compatibility: with your existing installation (door, lock, master key system)
  • Total cost: initial purchase + extra keys + long-term maintenance
  • Supplier availability: restocking lead times, after-sales support
  • Scalability: future extension, upgrade to connected solutions

Our expert verdict

Every need has its optimal solution. For standard residential use, we always recommend choosing quality in the mid-to-upper range rather than overspending on premium products or making do with low-cost ones. For professional use, scalability and support come first.

Frequently asked questions

Which A2P level does a standard home insurance policy require?

Most French home insurers require at least an A2P 2-star cylinder on the front door. A2P 3-star is required for homes in high-risk areas or for premium policies.

What is the practical difference between A2P 1, 2 and 3-star?

The A2P test measures resistance against an attacker equipped with tools: A2P 1★ = 5 minutes (picking, light drilling), A2P 2★ = 10 minutes (+ advanced tools, anti-bumping), A2P 3★ = 15 minutes (+ professional extractors, successive attacks).
